Requalification of the Philippe Lebon and Jeanne d'Arc squares in Lille

CoBe - Lille - Places Philippe Lebon and Jeanne d'Arc

The two areas under study are at the heart of the major landscape metamorphosis project led by the city of Lille. In the sector of the two squares, the rue Solférino is the subject of a renovation project whose main objective is to reduce the impact of cars on public space and to give a more important place to pedestrians. These new projects make these squares part of a district undergoing a major urban transformation. It seems important to us to improve the use value of these spaces and to offer a new breath of biodiversity in order to fight against contemporary environmental issues.

The Philippe Lebon and Jeanne d'Arc squares are located in a mainly residential area. However, the presence of numerous shops and restaurants gives the area an attractive and popular character. The majority of these local shops are concentrated on the direct periphery of these two squares. Restaurant terraces occupy the pavements and some of the parking lots only marginally. In our opinion, this characteristic is an important element to be developed in the project in order to maintain its attractiveness.
