Parc de l'Embouchure - Valencia

Development of the Parque de la Desembocadura urban park in Valencia (Spain)

The aim of the Parque de la Desembocadura project is to create the final phase of the Jardin del Turia urban park, which is located on the former bed of the river Turia, now diverted. This final phase of the project is being developed in a predominantly industrial area located between the huge complex built by Santiago Calatrava (City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia Aquarium, etc.) and the city's port area.

Our proposal seeks to reveal the old riverbed, using its original morphology as a basis for its revitalisation. The aim of this approach is to recreate a genuine landscape and environmental history that will enable us to understand how the River Turia behaved at its former mouth.

Respecting the original topography of the site will also ensure urban and landscape continuity with the existing park, as well as with the neighbourhoods and activities along the route of the new park. Shaping the river landscape will also make it possible to create generous public spaces with a variety of uses all along the route: river beach, relaxation areas, market, sports fields, etc.
