As part of a partnership with the architect Filipe Reis of Parâmetro Zero, we collaborated on the design of the Cálem Museum project

The interior architecture of the Cálem Museum in Vila Nova de Gaia is based on a subtle dialogue between industrial heritage and contemporary design. The space retains the original structure of the wine cellars, characterised by generous volumes, thick walls and a semi-dark atmosphere conducive to conservation. The raw materials — exposed concrete, stone, metal and wood — evoke the site’s identity and its historical use. The modern architectural intervention takes the form of precise, scenographic lighting, walkways and understated display fixtures that guide visitors without compromising the space’s authenticity.

The whole creates an immersive experience in which the architecture showcases the wine, the history of the site and the clarity of the museum’s layout.
The central feature is the reception desk, whose curved lines clearly evoke the meandering course of the River Douro. This organic form contrasts with the austere lines of the existing structures and introduces a gentle sense of movement into the space.
