B&B Hotel – Porto | Portugal

The project involves the design of a three-star hotel with 176 rooms and the redevelopment of the adjoining public spaces.

The project is located in the centre of Porto, near the Casa da Música.
The scheme forms part of a comprehensive regeneration programme for the site. It completes the fragmented urban frontage and reimagines the adjacent public space, with the extension of the existing «Largo Da Paz» square.

The project is being built on the site of a former house, backing onto the gable
a «blind» section ‘awaiting’ an adjoining building. The hotel extends from west to east, comprising two adjoining buildings, one with 9 storeys and the other with 4 storeys. This layout allows the different scales of the buildings adjoining the site to be coordinated.

A shared ground floor houses the reception areas, a bar, a restaurant, a lounge and the hotel’s administrative and support facilities (kitchen, technical areas and meeting rooms). The upper floors, up to the eighth storey, are mainly laid out with double rooms, making a total of 176 rooms.

The project covers a site area of 840 m² and features an underground car park. The cohesive character of this architectural complex is emphasised by the uniform treatment of the façades, the understated nature of the materials used and the systematic repetition of the glazed openings. The façades are characterised by a simple geometry in exposed precast concrete.

The aim is to achieve BREEAM – Very Good certification, which involves a diagnostic study into the recyclability of the components of the mansion on the site.
